When I moved to southern Lower Saxony in year 2000 because of a new job, I rediscovered my old hobby of bird watching. This area is highly interesting for
birding, because it has some moisture areas as the Leinepolder or the Seeburger lake, which are well accepted by birds. Many migration bird pass through this region. Goldene Aue, at the bottom of Kyffhäuser mountain
is quite close, which is the major crane resting place in central Germany. During my Business travel in Southern and Central America, I often have the possibility to meet a completely different world of birds. I
feel as a complete beginner there, because I even do not know the most common species. But I hope, that by the time, I get to know a little more.
If the birds do not fly away, and I have the camera and the spotting scope with me, I try to take bird pictures. I use a Leica Digilux 1 alone or connected
to the spotting scope Leica Televid 77 with a zoom eyepiece 20-60x. Mostly I just use the automatic function of the camera, but sometimes I increase the exposure. Som eof the pictures were taken by my father or my brother. The collection of the bird pictures shown here do not represent our world of birds. By now I have not
managed to take pictures of many of the most common birds, but I got some of the rare species. You find a better overview of the local birds on the homepage of my birding collegue Rainer Asch
Some birds were photographed in Puerto Rico. Those are very common species, which I managed to identify. I have never used a spotting scope there.
